A Personal Letter from the Senior Tutor: Haim Weinberg, Ph.D.

Dear Colleague,

My name is Haim Weinberg, PhD. You might have met me in one of the group-psychotherapy conferences or heard my name in relation to group therapy. I am an Israeli psychologist, a group analyst, and a certified group psychotherapist, now living in the USA. In Israel I directed a training program for group leaders in a multicultural society. In the US I have just developed a group psychotherapy program at the Doctorate level, in which I would like to interest you.

This is a unique program to therapists around the world that is offered by a 27 year old graduate school, The Professional School of Psychology (PSP). This program is suitable for mental health practitioners, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, art therapists, psycho-dramatists, and anyone dealing with group therapy. Upon graduating, the student is eligible for a PsyD degree approved by the State of California, USA. Whether you are already leading groups or interested in developing expertise in this fascinating field – this is the program for you.

This distinctive tutorial-based program will be individually tailored for you according to your level of experience and special needs, as well as your location and available time. For example, if you have led groups but feel that you lack some theoretical background, you will focus more on theories in group therapy. As the senior tutor of this program, I will be in close contact with you, if you enroll, discussing your progress and suggesting improvements. The frequent interactions between us include phone talks, email exchange and face-to-face meetings. In addition there will be group meetings and group interactions, either through Internet forums or quarterly face to face. These group meetings will take place either at my location (currently Sacramento, CA) or at the student's location (in rotation). Group meetings and interactions with other students will be part of the learning process.

The group psychotherapy program builds on four components: theory, skills, experience and supervision. Being a PsyD program (in contrast to PhD) means developing practical expertise in addition to learning abstract theories. As part of the program you will participates in a group, co-lead a group with a senior therapist, and be encouraged to participate and present in group therapy conferences. You will also be given the option of completing a “doctoral project” in lieu of an empirical dissertation. These projects are scholarly works that may include authoring a book, developing a treatment protocol or writing a grant proposal for a progressive, nonprofit agency.

If you are interested in this program and would like to read more details, go to www.psychology.edu for a full description of this distinctive doctoral tutorial program. If you have any questions, please call me at 916-212-6424 or write me at haimw@group-psychotherapy.com.

Sincerely yours,

Haim Weinberg, PhD.
