Program Components

icon Program Components

The group psychotherapy program builds on four important components:

1. Theory: You will learn theories of small groups and get to know important concepts related to groups.

2. Skills: You will aquire a "tool kit for the group leader", and how to apply the theories into group work.

3. Experience: Here you are going to experience the group process.

4. Supervision: Here you will become a group leader yourself.

The Tutorial Format

icon The Tutorial Format

The Group Psychotherapy Doctoral program makes extensive use of a tutorial format.

This format includes three distinctive elements. First, tutorials concern a specific body of published works. The tutor and student together explore the meaning and implications of the written text.

Second, the tutorial process involves the active engagement of both tutor and student in the learning process. During your learning journey you will be closely accompanied by your personal tutor, through frequent meetings, phone calls and Internet connections. In addition, the Group Psychotherapy program, group meetings and interactions with other students will be part of the learning process.

Third, the tutorial is inherently student-centered, in that it is tailored aroudn the needs, interests and logistical challenges (time, space) of the student.
