The Residential Format:
An Accessible Mode of Graduate Education
Since its founding in 1979, The Professional School of Psychology has offered accessible education to its mature students through classes that are offered primarily on weekends. Typically, a four unit course is offered on a consecutive Saturday and Sunday during one month, with the second half of the course being offered on a consecutive Saturday and Sunday approximately one month after the initial two day session.
Most of the PSP programs have now moved to an even more accessible Tutorial Format; however, the PSP Masters Degree Program in Clinical Psychology is still offered in the Residential Format. Typically, this means that students enrolled in this program come from a community in Northern California and enter the program so that they might be eligible for licensing in the State of California as Marriage and Family Therapists.
A four unit course meets for teo weekends (8 hours on Saturday and 8 hours on Sunday), while a two unit course meets for either one weekend (consecutive Saturday session for 8 hours and Sunday session for 8 hours) or two Saturdays separated by 3-5 weeks. A one unit course is convened on one Saturday (8 hours).
